Philippines: Disability Inclusion Advisor (local staff)

Red Cross are recruiting a Disability Advisor to support and guide Philippine Red Cross to finalise their policy and enhance awareness and incorporate disability inclusion in their programs and services. The position will also enhance and improve community based programs to ensure a high level of inclusion of persons with disability.

Position Responsibilities

Disability Inclusion Technical Support

  • In collaboration with PRC, support the review and approval of the PRC Disability Inclusion Policy and implementation plan
  • Provide ongoing advice in relation to disability inclusion approaches particularly within ARC-supported shelter and livelihood activities in Leyte and Samar
  • In collaboration with PRC relevant HQ staff and chapters, undertake periodic monitoring of relevant ARC-supported projects to ensure progress and effectiveness.
  • Build sectoral links with relevant agencies and positions to effectively resource disability inclusion within targeted programs
  • Build PRC capacity to work with and incorporate better programming approaches with PwD
  • Assist PRC in periodic review meetings, reflections and lessons learning activities
  • Train, mentor and coach PRC program staff in disability inclusion.

Program Management Support

  • Provide support to ARC Melbourne-based staff during in-country technical monitoring visits
  • In collaboration with ARC line manager, provide input into ARC strategies and policies as required

Position Selection Criteria

Knowledge and Experience

  • Work experience (minimum 3 years) in Disability Inclusion in both a community and health provider setting
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with and influence various stakeholders including local authorities and peak disability organisations
  • Experience in designing, developing curriculum and facilitating trainings and workshops
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching
  • Experience working with Red Cross or other humanitarian aid organisations (Desirable)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong capacity to build collegial relationships;
  • Independence and Teamwork – cooperates and works well with other in pursuit of team goals
  • Adaptability – adapts to changing work environments and demands
  • Well developed computer literacy skills within a Microsoft Office environment;
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills; and
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to undertake field-based travel up to 33% of time fraction
  • Interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity – shows consideration and respect for others and alternative views and across cultures
